Math
- In Math this year we build upon many concepts which we learned in third grade. We will be using the Math Investigations program as our foundation this year.
- We will study mathematical concepts in various forms this year. Sometimes our learning will occur whole group, and sometimes in small groups. We’ll use hands-on manipulatives and games to help us master concepts.
- Biggest difference this year: Students will be explaining how they came up with their answer.
Writing
- We will also have units of study for “Being a Writer” this year. Currently we are learning how to use our journals as a toolbox for writing. We are working on ideas to inspire writing in our journals.
- The remainder of our units of study are: how to craft our writing using obvious text structures, memoir, punctuation as a tool to craft our writing, feature articles and literary nonfiction, revision strategies, poetry, and multi-genre writing.
- We will use real world texts to inspire our writing for each unit of study this year.
- We will also study prompt writing as a genre this year. This will help us prepare for various writing prompts we will produce over the course of the year. These will be scored using a rubric and will go in our personal writing portfolios.
